Pine-Richland Cross Country

Pine‑Richland Cross Country is one of the district’s most spirited, inclusive, and hard‑working athletic programs. Open to both middle school and high school runners, the team emphasizes endurance, discipline, teamwork, and personal growth. Cross country at Pine‑Richland isn’t just about racing — it’s about building character, confidence, and community.

The program welcomes athletes of all experience levels, from seasoned runners to students trying the sport for the first time. Coaches focus on developing strong fundamentals, healthy training habits, and a supportive team culture where every athlete feels valued.

Cross country is one of the most transformative sports for young athletes. It builds physical fitness, mental strength, self-confidence, healthy habits, and a sense of belonging. Students learn how to set goals, push through challenges, and celebrate progress — not just wins.

Families are an essential part of the Pine‑Richland Cross Country community. Their support helps keep athletes fueled and encouraged, ensure meets run smoothly, maintain team traditions, provide resources the school cannot fund alone Parents who get involved through volunteering help create an environment where athletes feel supported, proud, and connected.

Pine‑Richland Cross Country is more than a sport. It’s a community built on hard work, encouragement, and shared purpose. Athletes grow stronger, families grow closer, and the program thrives because everyone contributes to the experience.

Student, or their parents, sign up for cross country at the conclusion of the school year. Current athletes will receive a link to sign up from Coach Hunkele. If you are new to cross country, contact BOTH Coach Hunkele and the Booster Club Board President. They will send you a Google form to register for cross country. Additional information about registering for sports participation is available on Pine-Richland's website. All forms must be submitted by the first day of official practice in mid-August. Optional Summer Training starts in mid-June with official practice starting in mid-August.

The team uses SportsYou as an app to communicate throughout the season. Coach Hunkele and Coach Knox will also communicate with parents and students via email with important updates about the season.

To participate in Cross Country, your student will need a good pair of running shoes, water bottle, and can-do attitude. We also recommend a SmartWatch that tracks distance and speed (like a Garmin watch).
